2020 Goals

Happy New Year Everyone!!

How are you kick-starting your New Year? Me? I am super determined, driven and goal-oriented at this moment! I am ready to put the work and work those long hours!

My top goal for 2020 is to start an MBA program! I recently left NICU and got a promotion as Unit Manager for OB/GYN Clinic. Now I’m ready to get started with a MBA program to advance my knowledge, expertise, and to expand my network. I have done a lot of research and narrowed it down to a few programs. Once I decide and sign-up with one I will keep you all informed.

My next goal is to start a YouTube Channel! Surprise!! Well I’ve already sign-up and started filming a few videos, but I really want to make my channel a place where I make related videos for those audience who work a M-F job. When I was working in the NICU I had days off during the weekdays, but also worked every other weekend, holidays and long hours. Now that I have become a M-F gal, I want to make videos that help people who also work the same schedule and things they can do to make their work life easier, such as meals to take to work & etc. I want to offer advice from my personal experience as well. Even if it only helps one person I will feel satisfied, I mean that honestly. Graduating high school, going to college, and trying to figure things out I was alone for most and didn’t have role models or people to relate to in order for me to have guidance.

I really really wanted to become a certified Yoga Instructor, but I don’t think I will be able to start the school this February. I really have to focus on studying for the GRE and getting into a MBA program for the first part of 2020. Hopefully I will have time to start in the Fall, but if not then 2021 it will be!

My plans for travel… to be honest I have two trips in mind for this year. I really am focused on increasing my income becasue I want to pay off my student loans. It has been bothering me for a while and that is why I’ve started looking into jobs such as transcribing or virtual assistant to do in addition to my Full Time M-F job. I know some people are thinking, but hey Mary starting your YouTube Channel will be a side income, but I am not looking at my YT Channel as work, but more as a hobby. Throughout school and for church I’ve always enjoyed creating videos or writing plays and directing them. My channel is a hobby and if it generate revenue then great! But not all channels generate an income that is why I am not looking at my YT Channel as additional income.

I had two main goals for 2019 and I acheived them both! I am very proud of myself for completing them.

  1. Go to Greece!!
As seen in my October post I went to Greece in September of 2019 and of course did not want to come back! Every time I see a picture or hear Greek music it reminds me how much I miss that trip and the amazing friends I made in my group!
  2. Leave NICU
November 2, 2019 was my last day working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It is no doubt that the NICU is my heart, my home and very special for me. After nearly 12 years of being a part of the NICU family it was time to grow. I no longer was able to grow professional in that department which is why I had to move to another. In October 18, 2019 I accepted the position of Unit Manager of the OB/GYN clinic. It was very hard leaving the NICU, but it was a step that needed to be taken.

What are your goals for 2020? Share them down below!

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year filled with health, happiness, and prosperity!

Good Evening Friends!

Being that I was born and raised in California I had never heard of the city Big Sur. In addition, I had never even heard of Esalen. I came across Esalen in December of 2018. 2018 itself had been a very difficult year for me, I was on Accutane, graduating college, looking for a career, doing an administrative internship, and dealing with life issues. I had many ups and downs during 2018 emotionally. Even though Accutane changed my skin and I love it, it really had me go through a roller-coaster ride with my emotions. I was easily agitated, snapped quickly, couldn’t get out of bed in the morning I mean that literally, had moments of depressions. In a nutshell I struggled a lot last year and wanted to get my strength back as I was getting off of Accutane and learn about self-love.

I had been practicing yoga for a few years and had heard about Yoga Retreats but didn’t know of any around. One evening I googled “Yoga Retreats in California” and Esalen came up. As I went through the website and saw the unbeliveable pictures I felt the connection to do a yoga retreat at this place. Esalen offers many different types of workshops for different topics. I didn’t think twice and signed up for a weekend Yoga Retreat for January 2019. I wanted to start my New Year this way.

California had rain pouring during this time. There was many mudslides and roads closed due to flooding. In fact I remember Esalen e-mailing me the night before and saying if I wanted to cancel I could due to the rain and road closures that lead to Esalen. My brother strongly encouraged me to cancel and “wait for the summer” to go. Being the stubborn girl I am I said, NO. I am going, I will take a longer route (an extra 60 miles in addition to the near 300 miles I already had to drive), but I am going.

Many hours later on a Friday I arrived to Esalen and automatically I felt at peace. The views and the energy at Esalen is unexplainable. I tell my friends and family, you won’t understand until you spend a weekend there. At Esalen they give you three meals a day. Everything they serve is organic and from their garden. Yes, they have their own garden where they grow fruits and vegetables. They have options for any diet. Regular, Vegetarian and Vegan.

Esalen is home to the hot springs, the water is nice and hot and come naturally from the mountains the property is near. They also have massage services where you can schedule for yourself to get a massage (I highly recommend it). Here is something else……THERE IS NO INTERNET AT ESALEN! You only can get WiFi at the dining area, but WiFi is closed during Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. It forces you to speak to people who are sitting around you and make friends. There are people of all ages and from different parts of the country.

I had an amazing time during my first visit at Esalen in January, in fact I loved it so much that I went back in six months later in June! This time I did a workshop called, “The Psychology of Chakras” with Coral Brown and she is amazing!!

I’ve told myself I want to come at least once a years, ideally I’d like to come twice. Once for a full weekend of Yoga and one for a fully weekend of a topic that interests me.

Below are pictures mainly from my second visit.

Hi Friends!!

If I’ve not already mentioned in one of my posts already I’m a Yogi and love practicing yoga. This past weekend during one of the hot yoga classes my instructor brought to our attention by saying, “Are you content with wherever you are in your pose or even life now?” That statement stuck with me during the entire practice and weekend. Most of us are usually looking get to a destination or a goal that we have set for ourselves. Many times we forget or ignore the journey we are on to getting to the goal we have set.

I for one am guilty of not being content with wherever I am in life. My career has been the topic I’ve been struggling with the most. Constantly applying for different jobs, getting a telephone interview, an in person interview here and there and at the end no job offer. Since the beginning of the year I’ve been so focused on transitioning into a different position than the one I hold now and I have not been content.

Since Saturday these three words have been what I’ve been mediating, digesting, and focusing on. Accepting where I am as far as my career goes. This does not mean I will stop applying, but it’s a reminder that I should be thankful for my current job that helps my pay rent, bills, and gives me the ability to join social events. I am healthy and have a job. Many people don’t have either a good health nor a good paying job. But I do and I am content with it. When the right position and time comes my way things will start unfolding like a blossoming rose.

Don’t forget to count your blessings, accept what you currently have because there is someone out there who wishes they have what you do. Be content where you are in life, work, love, goals and etc.

NAMASTE 🙏💛🧘‍♀️
